Well the winter program starts in less than a month and The Friends are all busy preparing for and looking forward to the opening on January 7, 2017. We hope everyone who joined us in the past will come out and enjoy nature once again while skiing, snowshoeing and walking the trails. Bring your friends….it’s always a great time! This year we have made a few improvements and additions, one being the new trail map being completed in time for the opening. The new map will include the distance for each of the trails and the GPS coordinates so you will easily navigate your way through the trails. A large scale version will be posted outside the centre and we invite you to take a picture of it to use as during your excursion. The second is that the St. Lawrence Parks Commission will be opening the Visitor centre on select days during the week and offering winter camping at the Bird Sanctuary campground. Please contact the centre for more information at 613-537-2024 or e-mail email@example.com The third improvement, and one we’ve been asked for many times, is that we will be able to offer Interac transactions for purchases and rentals. Check out our merchandise while you are there! The Friends and volunteers will open the Visitor Centre every Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. where you can rent skis or snowshoes, pick up some bird seed for our feathered friends, or enjoy a little light refreshment while warming up in front of the stove. Our ski and snowshoes rentals are very affordably priced and even more affordable if you are a member of the Friends of the Sanctuary. Becoming a member of the Friends of the Sanctuary is a simple process of downloading and completing the registration form and sending it, along with your registration fee, to P.O. Box 156, Ingleside, Ontario K0C 1M0.

The Moonlight ski’s will be held on January 14th, February 11th, and March 11th. The Visitor Centre will open at 6:00 p.m. so you have time to rent equipment and be ready for a 7:00 p.m. start. The ski or snowshoe usually run anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours depending on the skill level of the group and outdoor chilly temperatures. The Friends ask for a $5.00 donation to participate in this activity. Bird watching is always a favourite past time for our visitors and we invite you to download and use our checklist to record your observations on our Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary checklist. Completed forms can be left in the steel box attached to the back deck of the Visitor Centre. If you forget your form, you can pick one up inside the Visitor Centre or enter your observations in the Bird Log book which is kept in the steel box. The Friends will also be offering a wide range of fun youth and adult activities during March Break, so check back often for updates or look for us on Facebook at Friends of the Upper Canada Bird Sanctuary. If you have any questions about the winter program please call the Visitor Centre during our open hours from January until March at 613-537-2024, check our Facebook page or send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Don’t spend your winter inside when you can come out and enjoy nature in the Bird Sanctuary. Hope to see you there!
